Meet the Summer Instructors
From professional dancers previously with companies like San Francisco Ballet, University Teacher in the Arts, company dancers who are also physical therapists, and more - learn all about the awesome roster of teachers for this summer!

JUSTIN MCMILLIAN
Justin danced professionally for 20 years in San Francisco Ballet, Oklahoma, Virginia, Colorado, with tours to Portugal, Denmark, and Scotland. Some of his favorite ballets are Carmina Burana, Romeo and Juliet, and Swan Lake. When not dancing or working, he enjoys running, reading, movies, the beach, and cookies.

JASON SUMABAT
Jason Sumabat is a man of many artistic and technical talents! As a specialist in movement in theater, he has taught all across the US as a Master Teacher in the Arts. As the Director of the 21-year-old nonprofit, The Central Coast Follies, Jason has helped raised over $350.000.00 dollars through musical theater dance, singing, and acting. He is also a 26-year veteran weapons/movement choreographer for the Central Coast Shakespeare Festival. Jason has directed/choreographed countless shows including the most recent choreographed "Suessical Jr." with Central Coast Youth Theater. Throughout his career, Jason has helped develop the performing arts community throughout the county. He aims to bring life and expression to the stage through his personal motto that dance education and art is "EMOTION IN MOTION!"
Teaching the Theatre Acting for Dancers MasterClasses

KOBY WESCOM
Born and raised in San Luis Obispo county, Koby began his dance training with Class Act Dance and Artistry In Motion, during which he intensely trained and competed for 12 years in ballet, jazz, lyrical, tap, contemporary, and more. He also attended prestigious summer ballet intensives and programs at Ballet West, Long Beach Ballet, Maple Youth Ballet and Regional Dance of America, where his choreography was chosen to be featured along with other emerging choreographers. As a dancer, he was the recipient of the Jennifer Thoma Scholarship as well as the Mercer Sanchez Scholarship and has had the opportunity to train with industry greats such as Doriana Sanchez, Adam Skulte, Christina Grady, Jaso Mhyre and Desiree Robbins.

SAGE BEST
Sage has been dancing with BT-SLO since 2012. They have a background in ballet, contemporary, swing/ballroom, and modern including a bachelor's in dance from Ursinus College. As a company dancer, Sage has held lead roles as the Wolf in Gilbert Reed's "Peter and the Wolf", the titled role in Theresa's Slobodnik's "Snow Queen", lead monster in Gilbert Reed's "Firebird", and many more.

MARY-KATE FIGG
Mary-Kate started dancing and performing with Ballet Theater San Luis Obispo at age 10 and continued through high school. She began studying Kinesiology at Cuesta College and became a Certified Personal Trainer and Corrective Exercise Specialist through NASM. She continues to feed her passion for movement by assisting clients with proper body mechanics as she now works as a Physical Therapist Aide and personal trainer. She is back taking classes at Ballet Theater and cherishes every moment she gets to dance. As a company dancer, Mary-Kate has held principal roles as the Partridge in a Pear Tree in Theresa Sloboodnik's "The 12 Days of Christmas", a lead role in Gilbert Reed's "A Christmas Carole", and many more.

KATHY DEVANEY
Coach Kathy Devaney comes to us offering an extensive background working with youth across the SLO community, where she was born and raised. With 37 years of coaching sport leagues ranging from D1 to pee wee and raising four children of her own, Kathy has a wide range of skills and education on how best to encourage & develop young people.
A Camp Fire USA leader for 13 years, Kathy also served as Program Director for Camp Natoma. In addition to coaching, writing, singing, dancing, crafting, baking, lettering, she also counsels college bound student-athletes on the best steps to make their journey mindfully healthy.

BROOKE ANDRIS
Brooke has been dancing with Ballet Theatre SLO since 2010. She is currently studying Aquatic Biology at UCSB, but has continued dancing with Ballet Theatre throughout college. As a company dancer Brooke has held several lead roles such as the bird in Gilbert Reed’s "Peter and the Wolf,” Tsarevna in Gilbert Reed’s “The Firebird,” Bae the Reindeer in Theresa Slobodnik’s “The Snow Queen,” and many more.

BLAIR LONDON
Blair aims to impart the joy and beauty of expressing all kinds of music through classical ballet movements.
Blair London began studying folk dance in his early years and he has been studying ballet since his college days. He has performed as part of San Francisco’s International Folk Ballet: Khadra and dance companies in St. Louis. In San Luis Obispo. He was part of a select dance troupe invited to perform in Russia in 2002 under the direction of Lisa Deyo and performed countless roles for BT-SLO.
Blair is also a Professor of Materials Engineering at California Polytechnic State University. Blair and his wife Cindy live in San Luis Obispo and have 2 children.

Don't wait! RSVP for the classes you are interested in so we can reserve our teachers!

We require a minimum of 5 students per class registered at least 3 days before the class date. Otherwise, the class will be canceled (boo!), the students will be notified, and those who registered will not be charged.

Payment - BT-SLO Students: Students will be charged to their Studio Director account after their class.

Payment - Drop-in Students: We will send you a request to set up a Studio Director account for easy payment. Alternatively, you can pay via Venmo or check upon arrival. Please arrive 10mins early to sign a waiver and complete payment.
